Picked the counter height version for our kitchen island and the tubular steel base feels rock-solid even when I lean on it. The upholstered seat is firmer than I expected, which is actually perfect for sitting through a long meal without sinking in.

The cross bars under the seat make this thing feel rock solid, even when I lean back on it at the counter. The black powder-coated steel is smooth to the touch and the upholstered top is a nice break from my old wooden stools. It's exactly the clean, sturdy look I was after for the kitchen island.
